Unique lodging in Northeast Ohio- Where to Stay

You’re running off for a romantic getaway in Geneva, OH and you’re not sure where to stay? We’ve got you covered.

The great thing about this little town is that we are surrounded by so much natural beauty. Why stay in a hotel when you there are so many Lake Erie retreats or cabins nestled within the vineyards in Harpersfield,OH, the home to handfuls of award winning Ohio wineries and the Spire Institute.

Whether you are eloping, getting married or just need a night away from the kids, you have a ton of great options. With Geneva being 50 miles from Cleveland and Erie, PA, and two and a half hours from Columbus, OH and Pittsburgh, it’s a great central getaway for those who want to getaway but don’t want to travel far or blow your budget.

VINEYARD WOODS

Vineyard Woods- These private cabins nestled right in the heart of Ohio’s Wine Country. A romantic getaway amongst the grapevines is a perfect place to recharge, relax, and spend time connecting.

A villa on property is a great choice for elopements with family. That way you can stay together but each have your own space to relax, which is a bonus in my book.

Also, their Luxury cottages are absolutely stunning. Each storybook cottage, sheltered by 10 acres of vineyards, has their own style. These cottages are also right down the road from Kosicek Vineyards, South River Vineyard, Debonne Vineyards, and many other wineries in the heart of Ohio’s Wine Country.

If you are looking for a true elopement (just the two of you) this place is great because you can elope right there on property in the vineyard.

THE LAKEHOUSE INN RESORT

The Lakehouse Inn Resort- Luxury Lakefront lodging is exactly what this place offers.

A perfect resort experience, this place has it all. Minutes away from the Geneva-on-the-Lake "Strip", their famous Beach House or their newly released Pilot House, both provide a lakeview like any other. Enjoy panoramic views from your whirlpool tub for two or private deck that overlooks Lake Erie has all the comforts of home.

The Lakehouse also has a locally sourced, upscale restaurant called Crosswinds Grille. Their hand cut steaks and seafood are well known to locals and visitors alike. In addition to their full foodie experience they offer an array of private label wines and a full bar with local and high end spirts.

In addition to the lake views and spectacular menu, they also have a spa. The Lakehouse Inn Spa offers full day relaxation. Their service menu is full of massages, facials, and body treatments to aid in your much needed relief of the daily grind. Couples massages are available here six days a week, which is their most popular service. They also offer couples facials as well. The Merlot Massage ties in the wine experience by offering a wine serum mixed into to your massage oil to treat the skin to an anti-oxidant infusion.

In addition to all this resort has to offer, it has multiple decks that provide sweeping views of Lake Erie so you can watch the waves roll in while soaking in some sun and some wine.

RIVERVIEW RETREAT

RiverView Retreat- This four bedroom cabin that is located right on the bank of the Grand River. This woodland retreat has an outdoor hot tub for a winter warm up and is a great place to kick back and relax. It’s great for those who truly enjoy outdoor life, biking, hiking, fishing, canoeing and kayaking at Harbor Yak, and other outdoor sports and recreation. Don’t get us wrong, this rustic retreat isn’t really rustic on the inside.

Not only does the private outdoor hot tub overlooking the river make this a unique stay, but add in a big screen TV, kitchenette, private balcony, wi-fi, and an indoor fireplace, it all makes this a unique rustic getaway with the comforts of home.

Plus, the owners of this cabin always add in a few extras and guides to the local trails and wineries to make sure you feel welcome. It’s a great retreat for an elopement or getaway to truly unwind.

THE LOST PEARL BED AND BREAKFAST

The Lost Pearl Bed & Breakfast- A romantic Bed & Breakfast in Ohio’s wine country, is another truly, unique experience. In addition to their Inn rooms and glamping opportunities, they also have a renovated Train Caboose where you can stay overnight. This caboose is decked out with rich mahogany, a tin ceiling and chandelier, air conditioning, electric fireplace, and wine fridge.

The gardens and the gourmet breakfast are fabulous as well, but our favorite part about this place is goats. Yup, you heard right. They not only have a few animals roaming the grounds, but they make fabulous goats milk products. Dizzy Does’ Goat Ranch at The Lost Pearl, has a small country store on the property for you to purchase fudge, cheeses, soaps, lotions, and many other natural and handmade products.

I know what your thinking: GOATS?!?! Yes!

It sounds crazy but they are not intrusive to the relaxing and romantic stay you are looking for while you run off to elope. This is a unique stay that you don't want to miss.

HIDEAWAY RETREAT MOTOR LODGE

Hideaway Retreat- Nostalgia at It’s finest, with a modern twist. This 1950’s motor lodge has been re-vamped and re-imagined into an upscale experience. This Geneva-on-the-Lake self check-in boutique motel definitely meets the unique lodging requirement.

Their suites include the Farmhouse Suite, which as a kitchenette and sleeps up to five people. They also have a BOHO, Industrial, Glamour (shown above), Modern Retro boutique hotel style rooms.

Located in Ohio's oldest resort town, it’s a quick walk to Walk to Lake Erie, Cove Night Club, the famous, Eddie's Grille, and more attractions on the famous "Strip". It’s approximately a 15 minute drive to the Historic Ashtabula Harbor District and many of the area wineries.

Geneva State Park, Walnut Beach, or Headlands Beach are all close options for an romantic elopement.

BUCCIA VINEYARD

Buccia Winery: What a way to elope. At Buccia you get to stay at a working vineyard.

This old-school Bed & Breakfast/winery is well know for it’s secluded location, live entertainment, and fabulous wines. This place has four rooms total, making this an intimate place to elope and honeymoon. With hot tubs in every room, personalized service, kitchenettes, custom tile walk-in showers, breakfast and wine flights that are included with each stay, how could you go wrong?

Buccia lies a bit farther than many of the other wineries but is close to Conneaut Township Park, which has a fabulous nostalgic style beach that is a great photography spot for a retro-summer elopement, Markko Vineyard (a must visit staple in the area), many covered bridges, and 15 minute drive from Ashtabula’s Bridge Street. In addition, just a few minutes away is Park Ave, which is home to many locally owned restaurants, shops, and coffee shops that overlook Lake Erie.

Buccia has a pergola with a vineyard back drop that is great for a wedding ceremony and pictures, and also hosts weddings over 100+ in their newly built pavilion. Here you can have your wedding cake, and eat it too.
